The Philanthropy Connection is a group of like-minded women joining together to engage in collective philanthropy. We give high-impact grants to organizations in Massachusetts that work to improve the quality of life for individuals and families living in Massachusetts. Forming connections is at the heart of what we do – we work hard to create opportunities for our members to connect and learn from each other, as well as from the local organizations we support.
To join The Philanthropy Connection, women are asked to give a $1,100 membership donation. At the end of each year, $1,000 of each member’s donation is given directly as pooled grants to Massachusetts’ non-profits. The more women who join, the more money we have to give away.
We keep our administrative costs low by using a largely volunteer staff, tapping into the talent pool of our membership. Our office space is highly subsidized as part of the Next Mile Project, an innovative community in Boston for non-profits to accelerate solutions to social challenges.
We do not hold galas or fundraising benefits. Our events are structured to create opportunities for our members to connect and learn from each other, and from local non-profit organizations.
Each member decides for herself how involved she would like to be. Some members choose simply to write a check and attend our Annual Meeting to participate in voting for that year’s grant recipients. Others choose to become deeply involved in committee work – evaluating grants, conducting site visits, working with local press to keep them up-to-date on the contributions our grantees and The Philanthropy Connection are making in Massachusetts, and more.
