WEL Networks is an innovative, infrastructure provider serving Waikato communities for 100 years.
Our role is to distribute power from Transpower's national grid, to over 160,000 people through around 85,000 installation connection points.
While electricity distribution is our core business, a wider strategic approach allows us to play an essential role in the region’s economic and social development. Guided by an experienced Board of Directors, we identify and invest in new technologies that benefit our people, modernise our network and future proof our region.
Our Smart Network project is now complete with 58,000 smart boxes installed across Waikato, allowing integration of information received from the smart boxes into our asset management decision making processes. WEL is also a strategic shareholder of Ultrafast Fibre, the company responsible for the successful UFB rollout in parts of Taranaki and the Waikato.
WEL Networks is fully community-owned, with WEL Energy Trust our sole shareholder.
Our highest priority is always the safety of staff and our community; we are committed to getting everyone home safely, every day. To achieve this, WEL engages a dedicated, highly trained field services team. We also strive to ensure our equipment and practices are industry leading, and we work with key stakeholders to educate people on safety around power lines.
